WHAT DOES THE AIRBAG SYMBOL LOOK LIKE?

Refer to the image to the right & above. The symbol that appears on the dashboard of your car is of a person sitting in a seat with seat belt on and a large beach ball in their lap.

WHAT DOES SRS STAND FOR?

It stands for - Supplemental Restraint System. It mainly refers to the air bag electronic system in your vehicle. When you first turn on your vehicles ignition this light (& others) will illuminate on your vehicles dash board. If working correctly means no open circuits in the computer system then the light should come on for a few seconds as the computer tests the circuits, then the air bag light should go out. This indicated that the system is working correctly. If the air bag light stays on this means there is a fault in the system.

Some air bag srs systems have pre-tensioners attached to the seat belts. If the crash sensors detect a crash the air bag system will activate the pre-tensioners, pulling the seat belts tight against you and firing the air bags. Both units are usually fired with gun powder. It can be dangerous to activate these if you are not sitting properly in the vehicle. We strongly recommend you do not attempt repairs unless you have had suitable training.
